Hey there, Oxdarock here!
Even though OxRockBlock is supposed to be my base of operations, I rarely post announcements here outside of picture posts and store advertisements. Well, better late than never to start I suppose! Let’s begin!
Commission Slots are Open!
After my last big post of pictures that I’d been working on over the past month, I’ve finally finished my list of commissions! So now it’s time to start a new batch all over again! I’ll be accepting 10 commissions slots, which I will update via my DeviantArt page (cause it’s easier to do it there than here). Also, the last time I was accepting slots, towards the end several people sent me notes all at once, resulting in me taking in 13 slots rather than 10. This time around, as my slots get closer to filling, I’m going to be a lot stricter in what commissions I accept, rather than take everything that comes my way so that no one misses out. To see more on my commission rules and pricing, please view the chart below. If you’re interested in commissioning me, please send me an email or (preferably) send me a note on my DeviantArt page.
Commission Price FAQs
Around the end of the year 2016, I made this new commission chart, as well as a new way of determining the price of each commission. After three months of using this method, I have a better idea of how to decide what side of the spectrum each commission will be, so I’ve decided to share a bit on what I’ve discovered. Aside from things like basic character design, extra characters, background and complexity, here’s a list of things that I base my decision on. Keep in mind that most of these usually refer to simple and standard shaded pictures:
Nudity: If a character(s) is wearing little or no clothing, this will often put the total on the lower end of the price spectrum. There are, however, varying factors of a picture that will offset this, most of which are listed below.
Hair: This is a huge factor when it comes to price, mainly for standard shading, and will usually land it in the middle or higher end of the price spectrum. If a character has long or a really complex hairstyle, this usually means I’ll be working on it a lot. This however, doesn’t mean that a character that happens to have long hair will spike the price. Rather, the longer and more hair that is visible, the longer it’ll take to shade. To give an example, for the picture below, out of the four hours it took to shade this, half of it was on the hair alone.
While I’ve refined my coloring method since then, the pattern on hair coloring time is still relatively the same.
Muscles: Another factor closely related to standard shading (an supposedly simple shading as well), putting the price on the middle to higher end of the price spectrum. I basically give muscle shading the same treatment as breast shading (or similar soft bits), so it takes a bit of time, especially given how many muscles a person can have.
Slimegirls: Surprisingly, this effects both simple and standard shading. Using a recent commission as an example, the sheer amount of highlighting and shaded areas made this take a lot longer than I initially expected, despite the character being nude. That said, slimegirls, or even slimy parts in general, will most likely land on the higher end of the price spectrum.
Conjoinment: This a special case and a very irregular factor when it comes to the pictures I’ve drawn and also effects all shading levels. While conjoinment isn’t two (or more) full extra characters, they’re not one character either. So I think a good method of pricing conjoinment is one character +1/2 the cost of an extra character. It might be a little less or more depending on the number of heads and limbs, but I think keeping this number in mind.
New Commission Shading Options
Been muling around a couple of new shading options I’d like to try, as well as a more solid method of pricing comic commissions. These are pretty experimental, and don’t really have solid examples, but here’s what I have in mind.
Color Sketches: $20-$30 USD ($15-$25 per extra character)
These would basically be the same as flat color images, but without the super clean line art (though I will attempt to keep the sketch lines as clean as possible).
Greyscale Shading: $35-$50 USD ($30 to $45 per extra character)
These would essentially be similar to simple, or even standard, shading but with grey tones. For anyone who’s read my MikoXMonster series, it’s something along those lines. I don’t know if it the exclusion of color would be that much of a difference from simple shading, so it’s something I’ll need to try a few times to find out.
Sketch Comics: $15 per panel (starting price)
Add clean line art: $10 per panel (starting price)
Add color: $15 per panel (starting price)
Storyboarding and scripts: Starting at $10 per page (starting price)
These are starting prices to keep in mind for comic commissions. There are a lot of varying factors when it comes to what each comic will be about, what each panel features, etc, but this should work as a good starting point. It becomes a lot clearer once I actually know what I’m drawing in each panel, how many panels I’m drawing, etc. Also, if a page only has one panel, that will go by my regular commission prices, rather than comic commissions. If I’m able to handle these types of commissions well, I’ll definitely be tweaking the price based on my experiences.
Lusty Lamp Related Commissions
Just wanted to point out to people that, although I might not hold a discount special all the time, it’s perfectly fine to commission works that would take place in my Lusty Lamp Resort Universe. Also, for comic commissions, if I like an idea, I might consider giving a discount if the idea is based on something from the Lusty Lamp (so long as I’m able to sell it of course). Just wanted to throw that out there.
Patreon Posting
While I wait for my commission slots to fill, I’ll be switching gears to comic work for the rest of the month. I’ve already finished sketching the next comic and should have at least one post ready by the end of the month (which I’ll post next Thursday and/or Friday EST). For those who’d like to be part of my Patreon and patron benefits, now’s the time to join my Patreon!
That’s all for now!
