Just finished spending two days reading Danmachi Vol 18. It feels good to read a legitimately good piece of literature after suffering over a year of mediocre storytelling via several gacha games. Though I will be fair in that Fujino Omori is in a league of their own when it comes to work, it doesn’t excuse writing that throws hours of text at you in an attempt to be deep, but simply feels like a waste of time, doesn’t leave a lasting impression save for a few short moments, and often puts you to sleep.
Not once did I feel any sort of boredom when going through 836 pages of text, 27 lines per page, over the course of 10 hours, even rereading certain passages due to how passionately they were written.
I’ll definitely still continue to read the stories of the gacha I play, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more inclined to hit the skip button if available. Not even a matter of wanting to play a game versus reading a book. The storytelling needs work.
And that’s my rant. Enjoy your day. 🙂
